The National Cycling Academy of South Africa attempts to educate, via a unique model, the youth of our country, regarding cycling as a means of mobility and pleasure.
Many of these people have never had the chance of riding a bicycle for a purpose or for fun. They are our focus. We find them on farms, in rural areas, and in slums. We spend, at present, most of our time on the people in the Winelands District of the Western Cape of South Africa.
We do not concentrate on high performance and competitive racing development,
but rather on the opposite end, trying to 'create' new cyclists, safely, through education, and focusing primarily on
TRANSPORT, then on RECREATION, and only then on cycling as a SPORT.
We support:- the creation of Safe Bike Parks, including its maintenance and management
- the creation of Safe Bicycle Routes & Trails, including its maintenance and management
- the creation of Safe Events, including the development and management thereof
- programmes around Safe Cycling Education
- building a path towards Cycle Racing
We believe our goals address:
- Social Matters (independence and pride, ownership)
- Health (through exercise)
- Sanitation (access to water - having to carry water home is still a big deal for many people)
- Education (we teach road rules, etiquette and future bike mechanics)
- Employment (access to opportunities, not having to find a taxi to get there, becoming an mechanic, or trails builder.)
